Dear Parents and Carers
“To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.” Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman
This week began with the children taking part in our multi-academy trust’s big science day. This brought together all the schools in our trust to carry out science investigations involving: flipping bottles, rolling bottles and Rocket Mice? (Ask the children!)
The children all had a fantastic time while at the same time shared some great learning experiences with children across our trust.
The children completed lots of fun science all week from building marshmallow spaghetti towers, planting sunflower seeds and some children blowing up balloons with baking powder and vinegar. All good fun and good science!
We had a fantastic number of entries for our competition to build a tower out of junk materials. Well done to all who entered the competition. Congratulations to Lexie in Year 6 who was the overall winner.
Lenten Charity Fund Raising
Many thanks to everyone who took part in the wear something red for Save the Children. It was excellent to see such a good response to this appeal.
Next week we have two events:
- On Tuesday 22nd March the children are invited to wear non school uniform and take part in a cinema afternoon, all for a donation to the CAFOD Ukraine Appeal in partnership with the D.E.C
- On Friday 25th March the children will be taking part in a sponsored walk around the school grounds this is to raise money for the Pilgrims Hospice. Sponsor Forms will be sent out early next week.
Raffle tickets are on sale for our Easter Egg raffle. We still need more donations of Easter Eggs. Many thanks to everyone who has made a donation so far.
Big Walk and Wheel
The school has entered the Sustrans “Big Walk and Wheel” which runs from 21st March through to the 1st April when the children are asked to either walk, cycle or scoot to school. The number of journeys walked, cycled or scooted are recorded each day to encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce traffic on the roads.
For those who need to drive when dropping off children their journeys will still count if parents park for example in the Church Car Park and then walk to school so everyone can take part.
To coincide with the Big Walk and Wheel the children in Year R, 1 and 2 will be taking part in cycle safety training with Cycle Circle. This involves the children being shown how to ride a two wheeled cycle safely.
The training takes place on our school playgrounds on the following days: Year R Monday 21st March, Year 1 Thursday 24th March and Year 2 on Monday 24th March. This training is funded by using some of our Sports Premium.
Cycle Circle Free Bike Check
On Monday 28th March Cycle Circle will return to the school to carry out minor repairs and maintenance to bikes. These are all completely free of charge. Booking is recommended as places are limited. info@CycleCircle.co.uk www.CycleCircle.co.uk
This is a reminder to all parents and carers that all children are expected to wear full school uniform and have a school P.E Kit for physical education lessons.
Details of our full school uniform can be found here: https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/school-uniform/
With best wishes
