Weekly News 12th November 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

"When you go home, tell them of us and say, for their tomorrow we gave our today."

Many thanks to all the parents who attended our Parent Evenings this week and for taking the time to complete our questionnaire. Your comments are valued and help us to improve what we do at the school to support the children in their learning.

I must apologise to our Year 6 parents for having to postpone Thursday’s appointments with Miss Wood but unfortunately she lost her voice and although she was in school on Thursday and managed to teach the class by lunchtime it was very clear that she would not be able to fulfil her appointments.

We have rescheduled the evening for next Thursday 18th November.

This week Year 5 led us in our act of remembrance when we think about all the people who have lost their lives due to conflict since the First World War. The children used drama, music and a little humour to get across the sacrifice that was made so that we can live in freedom. Well done Year 5.

Year 5 will be putting together the final touches to their film version of Hamlet for the Shakespeare Film Festival. We are hoping to be able to share the link to the film or hold a Film Premiere of some kind in the very near future. Watch this space for more details.

In the weeks beginning 22 and 29th November the children will be participating in the NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe Programme for schools. The programme will help reinforce key messages about abuse and neglect as part of our school’s teaching on relationships. They will support children to feel empowered - knowing how they can speak out and stay safe. The resources are at an age appropriate level.

Please see the letter for parents which explains the programme in more detail and provides links for parents to use as follow up to what the children will learn in school.

Thursday 18th November is St Simon’s Poetry Day.  We will have a visit from the Poet Tony Alexander Webber who will be working with the children. I am sure that the children will enjoy writing and performing poetry with our visiting poet.

Next Friday 19th November is “Children in Need” so we are holding a “Pyjama Day” when the children can come to school dressed in their pyjama’s, Onesies and dressing gowns etc. all for a donation towards the “Children in Need Charity.”

Our Christmas Fair is fast approaching on Friday 10th December at 2:00p.m. We are planning to hold this event outside so please say a prayer for good weather.

For our Christmas Fair we are holding non-school uniform days in return for the following items that we will need for the fair.

Friday 26th November                    Stationery sets to make up presents in Santa’s sack

Friday 3rd December                       Bottles for our Bottle Stall- bottles which parents may like to drink!

Thursday 9Th December                 Cakes for our cake stall

In the run up and on the day of the Christmas Fair we could do with parental volunteers to wrap Christmas Presents fold raffle tickets etc. so if you think you can help please contact the school office.

With best wishes
