Dear Parents and Carers
“You will always have joy in the evening if you spend the day fruitfully.” Thomas à Kempis
This week our Year 3 children started swimming lessons at the Stour Centre. This is the first time we have been able to arrange lessons for at least two academic years due to COVID restrictions and the refurbishment of the centre.
The children were very excited by the lesson and although some may have been a little anxious before going, all came back smiling.
Mrs Hyczko returned to school smiling with a pair of unclaimed boy’s underpants so some things don’t change as one of the boys must have returned to school commando style!
Unfortunately, this week security marking of bicycles didn’t take place as the police personnel who were going to carry out this work have all had to isolate due to COVID. We were able to hand out security marking kits to those who requested these.
Our Year 6 took part in a virtual visit to the Houses of Parliament which isn’t quite the same as an actual visit but the children did find the experience fascinating. They managed to speak to our local Member of Parliament Mr Damian Green and have invited him to our future 50th anniversary celebrations planning for which is well underway.
We would like to involve our whole school community both past and present in the planning of our 50th anniversary celebrations so please keep sending in any ideas and suggestions.
Some ideas that have been put forward:
- A street party to tie in with the Queens Platinum Jubilee
- Creating and registering a time capsule
- Producing a souvenir mug for every child
- Some form of permanent art display or sculpture
- Whole school pilgrimage to Aylesford Priory
Many thanks to those who have already sent in ideas and suggestions for how we can celebrate and any offers of help putting our celebrations together will be greatly appreciated.
On Thursday 20th January in order to encourage children in Reception and Key Stage 1 to take up the offer of a free school provided meal our catering team are putting on a special menu. Children can choose from:
Mains: Beef Burger or Veggie Hot Dog
Sides: Chips, sweetcorn, baked beans
Yummy Desserts: Chocolate Orange Drizzle Cake with Chocolate Custard or Strawberry Jelly and Ice Cream
All children will be put in for a school provided meal on Thursday 20th January (medical exemptions will apply) and parents will have the option of opting their children out by providing a packed lunch. We do hope that as many children as possible in EYFS and KS1 will take up this offer.
With best wishes
