Dear Parents and Carers

When the dark clouds come...keep going” Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse

This week the children have been celebrating Arts Week and have been producing some lovely pieces of work within their classrooms and outdoors. The children have worked with two professional artists: Sharon Potter and Lucy Stockton-Smith from Animate Arts Company using the book “The Boy, the Mole, The Fox and The Horse” by Charlie Mackesy as their inspiration.

Today we had planned to put together an outdoor exhibition of some of the work that the children have produced so that everyone could view this after school but we have had to postpone this until Monday as the weather has been so unseasonal and unpredictable this week. It is supposed to improve next week so all being well we can display the work from Monday 24 May.

Congratulations to Carris and Angelina in Year 6 who thrilled all classes with a dance performance that they choreographed themselves in their own time as part of our Art Week. Well done girls!

The new Trim Trail has finally been completed and the children in Key Stage 1 have been enjoying their play times playing on this. We used some of our remaining school Sports Funding to pay for this aiming to encourage the children to be more active and adventurous at play times.

On Wednesday 26  May we have a visit from the school photographer that will be taking individual and family group photographs but unfortunately this year we cannot include any pre-school aged children due to COVID restrictions. Please can all children be turned out in proper school uniform.

Next week Year R will join Fr Hans at the Church for a Bible Blessing where Fr Hans will bless and present each child with their very own bible.

The half term holiday is approaching and food vouchers for children who are on benefits related Free School Meals will be available for this week. If parents are eligible for this, they must make sure that the school has got up to date contact details otherwise we will not be able to make sure of delivery.

Reminder: St Simon’s is a nut free school!

In school we have a number of children and a member of staff who are allergic to all types of nuts so please can all parents and carers make sure that all packed lunches and snacks are nut free to insure the safety of others.

Lateral Flow Testing Kits

I am sure that many of you are aware that the government is encouraging everyone to take part in Lateral Flow Testing for COVID. Free testing kits are now available for all who wish to take part and these can be obtained from most of the local pharmacies. Everyone is entitled to pick up four testing kits containing 7 tests at a time and then you are required report the results at:

https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

With best wishes

Peter McCabe
