Weekly News 24 November 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

“Give something however small, to the one in need. For it is not small to one who has nothing.” St Gregory Nazianzus

This Sunday is the feast of Christ the King which is the end of the liturgical year as we will soon be looking forward to Advent the season when we prepare for Christmas. It is quite a magical time in school when we hear Christmas Carols and the Nativity Play being practiced. Christmas will be upon us before we all know it!

Children in Need

Well done everyone we managed to raise £200.41 for BBC Children in Need charity.

Christmas Fair Preparations

Many thanks for the donations of stationery sets that will go towards presents for Fr Christmas’ sack at our Christmas Fair. This week we also received many items for our colour raffle. Many thanks for all the kind donations to date.

Next Friday we are looking for donations of nice bottles (Full ones that parents might like to drink!) for our bottle stall.

We are still looking for donations for our Christmas Raffle if anyone knows of a business that might like to contribute a prize for our raffle this would be greatly appreciated.

We also need your help on the day to make the fair a great success. That means we need you to turn up at the fair on Friday 8th December and take your children to the fair- the children will need to be accompanied by an adult if they wish to go.

Year 5 and 6 Visit Folkestone

Year 5 and 6 children attended a Folkestone Book Festival Event with the author Michel Faber. The children learnt a great deal and all enjoyed the experience. Their behaviour on the day was excellent well-done all-in Year 5 and 6.

Year 1 and 2 Trip to Ashford Picture House

On Wednesday 29th November Year 1 and 2 will visit Ashford Picture House to watch “Stick Man”. This should be a treat for the children. They will walk to Ashford Picture House and return in time for their normal school lunch. The cost of this visit will be paid using money that the children have raised through past events such as our Summer Fair.

Football Match at St Teresa’s

Today our School B Team will be playing an away match against St Teresa’s Primary School. I am sure that the children will give their very best. Hopefully the result will be better than last week as St Teresa’s beat us 8-4. Come on St Simon’s!

Mr Hunt is still trying to arrange some girls football matches as we have a very keen group of girls who wish to play their part for the school. At the moment it is now getting very dark very early and these may have to wait until the New Year when it gets lighter.

Welcome to Fr. Jose Farewell Fr Hans

On Sunday children from the school said goodbye to Fr Hans. He was presented with a beautiful card from all classes. We will miss Fr Hans and wish him the very best.

This week Fr Jose is joining the parish and we look forward to welcoming him to school on Wednesday when he will celebrate Mass with our Year 5 children in their classroom at 9:30a.m. Parents and carers are welcome to attend if they wish.

With best wishes

Peter McCabe
