Dear Parents and Carers

“You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limits, that is real joy.”-Tennis legend Arthur Ashe

Sports Week

This week the children have been enjoying Sports Week in which they have been doing different activities all week. The weather wasn’t very good at the beginning of the week but Mr Hunt did a bit of rearranging of the timetable and the children still had a fantastic week. (It’s a shame Mr Hunt couldn’t rearrange the weather!)

Unfortunately, the rain returned again today so we have had to postpone Sports Day until Monday let’s all hope and pray that the weather improves so that the children can enjoy competing against their friends and classmates.

Children are asked to come into school on Monday in their school uniform but make sure that they bring in their P.E kit in their P.E Bag along with their team colours.

We all have to thank Mr Hunt for the tremendous work he has done in planning and ensuring that our Sports Week was so successful. Well done Mr Hunt!

Many thanks for the donations of cakes which the children enjoyed this afternoon which helped them get over the disappointment of not doing sports today.

Transition

This week we held our first new intake meeting for our new reception class for September. Unfortunately this had to be done over Zoom as we were not able to do this in person, it did however at least give our new parents a chance to meet their children’s teachers even if it was on a computer screen.

We have planned transition sessions for Years R-5 to meet their new teachers on: Wednesday 30 June, Wednesday 7 July and Wednesday 14 July. Unfortunately the children will not be able to move up to their new classrooms due to having to keep our “Class Bubbles” COVID secure.

All transition arrangements for Year 6 with their secondary schools have now been cancelled so Miss Woods and the class adults will be doing their very best to prepare the children for moving on.

The final date for ordering school uniform for September is Sunday 1 August 2021 uniform can be ordered at www.brigade.uk.com. All children without exception are expected to wear full school uniform from the very beginning of next term so please make sure you get your orders in on time.

REMINDER KENT TEST

Registration for the KENT TEST closes on Thursday 1st July 2021 parents of Year 5 can register their children here: https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places/kent-test#tab-1

Farewell Mrs Woods our School Cook

Today we said goodbye to Mrs Woods our school cook as she is moving onto a new position and new challenges.

Mrs Woods has given over 17 years to the children of St Simon’s School. She has cooked many a Christmas Dinner, prepared hundreds of jacket potatoes and portions of mac n cheese. She single handed worked through both lock downs ensuring hot meals were prepared for Key worker children while at the same time preparing food parcels for children who needed these. All of this done with a smile and a great deal of humour- she has never even complained when I have pinched the odd roast potato or handful of chips! (Usually when she wasn’t looking)

Mrs Woods will be missed by us all and on behalf of everyone at the school I would like to wish her the very best of luck and future happiness in her new role.  Goodbye and Good Luck Mrs Woods!

With the very best of wishes

Peter McCabe
