Weekly News 4th March 2022
Dear Parents and Carers
“Lent is a ‘powerful’ season, a turning point that can foster change in each of us. Let us deny ourselves something every day to help others.” Pope Francis
Ash Wednesday
Well done to all the children for their excellent behaviour during Mass on Ash Wednesday and during our EYFS and Key Stage 1 Lenten Liturgy.
Many thanks to all the parents who joined us for our Lenten Liturgy it is good to welcome parents back fully into school life.
Parents Evening and Reports
Today you should have received your child’s latest school report. The report is only a “snapshot” of how well your child is doing in school and in order to provide you with more information and to discuss your child’s progress we are holding two Parent Evenings on Tuesday 8th and Thursday 10th of March from 3:30 until 6:00p.m.
If you haven’t already made an appointment, please contact the school office.
World Book Day
It was good to see the children taking part in World Book Day activities this week and their “Shelfie” pictures were great. These will be put on display in the school. It isn’t too late to send pictures in if your child hasn’t already done so. I am quite willing to print these off if anyone hasn’t managed to. Pictures can be emailed to me: peter.mccabe@st-simons-ashford.kcsp.org.uk
Lenten Fund Raising
Our School Council held an emergency meeting to discuss that with the humanitarian crisis that is happening in Ukraine and decide if the school should divert all their fund raising towards this.
The school Council decided that rather than doing this they would like to keep the planned events as they are but add an additional fund raising activity dedicated to this.
The children this year are raising money as shown below:
Water Aid Crazy Hair Day Friday 11 March
Save the Children Dress Red Day Friday 18 March
Pilgrims Hospice Sponsored Walk Friday 25 March
World Wildlife Fund Year 6 Activities Friday 1 April
CAFOD fund for Ukraine Non uniform Day and film afternoon Tuesday 22nd March
Easter Egg Raffle
This year we are going to hold our St Simon’s Easter Egg Raffle so we need to ask for donations of Easter Eggs. Tickets will then be sold from the week beginning 14th March. All money raised from the Easter Egg Raffle will go towards the Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine.
50th Anniversary Celebration Friday 27th May
Congratulations to George Braisby whose Logo Design has been chosen by our school council as the winning design.
We had so many marvellous designs sent in that it was very difficult to judge. George’s design will become our “official logo” but we still plan to use some of the other designs presented in the competition.
Planning Meeting
On Monday 7th March at 2:15p.m we are holding a meeting to draw on the support of parents and carers for our celebration. We want to make this a real whole school family event and will need volunteers to help us leading up to the celebration and on the day of the celebration itself on Friday 27th May.
Prayers for Ukraine
Pope Francis has asked us all to pray for the people of Ukraine and for peace.
CAFOD Prayer for Ukraine
Loving God,
We pray for the people of Ukraine,
for all those suffering or afraid,
that you will be close to them and protect them.
We pray for world leaders,
for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices.
We pray for the world
that in this moment of crisis,
we may reach out in solidarity
to our brothers and sisters in need.
May we walk in your ways
so that peace and justice
become a reality for the people of Ukraine
and for all the world.
Amen
Peter McCabe
