Weekly News 7th March 2025
Dear Parents and Carers
“Lent is a ‘powerful’ season, a turning point that can foster change in each of us. Let us deny ourselves something every day to help others.” Pope Francis
This week we saw the beginning of Lent the season when we prepare for the coming of Easter. The children all had the opportunity to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday Key Stage 2 when they attended Mass with the parish and EYFS and Key Stage 1 during our Lenten Liturgy led by the children.
Many thanks to the parents and carers who attended both events.
Throughout Lent all classes except EYFS will have the opportunity to attend The Stations of the Cross starting with Year 5 and 6 on Tuesday 11th March.
Crazy Hair Day
Many thanks to all who took part in our first Lenten Fundraiser “Crazy Hair Day” it was a joy to see how creative some of the fantastic and to be honest ridiculous hair styles or for a donation to the Charity Missio. Well done one and all.
Next Friday we are holding a sponsored walk for CAFOD more details early next week.
World Book Day
Well done to everyone who entered our World Book Day competition to dress a potato up as a favourite book character. The response to this was fantastic we had a wide range of book characters depicted using a common potato or spud as we call them in Ireland.
The winners from each year group were:
Year R “Tabby McTat” Advika
Year 1 “The Gruffalo” Kurtis
Year 2 “Room on a Broom” Zoe
Year 3 “White Rabbit” Thandi
Year 4 “Gangsta Granny” Leon
Year 5 A variety of five Characters Liliana
Year 6 “Dinosaur” Emiko
Parents Evening
Our next parent evenings are being held on Tuesday 18th March and Thursday 20th March. Appointments will be available from 3:30p.m. until 6:00p.m.
Parents will be able to book an appointment on Weds, Thurs and Friday the 12th, 13th and 14th March in the school hall directly before and after school.
Online Science Day
On Wednesday next week the children will be able to join all the other schools across our trust (Kent Catholic Schools Partnership KCSP) in our annual online science day.
Children Watching Inappropriate Material
We have a number of children who have mentioned that they are watching “Squid Game” which has a rating of at least 15 years. This programme contains content which isn’t appropriate for primary aged children. Parents need to remember that children will often re-enact what they see on screens in school. It is a parental responsibility for parents to follow guidance when allowing children to access programmes and games and ensure what their children are accessing is suitable.
There are different science investigations set up for each year group to take part in over the course of the day when they will be able to join other schools virtually to share their ideas and results.
Last year this was very successful and the children all had a wonderful day so we are all looking forward to this. For guidance please check out our online safety bulletins.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe
