Weekly News Friday 12th May
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 2 and Year 6 SATS
Well done to our Year 6 pupils who have completed their SATS this week. The children showed great resilience and determination giving their very best.
Our Year 2 children are also making excellent progress through their SATS they are a real credit to the school the way they have taken to the tasks with no complaints and with a great attitude to succeed.
Crowning of Mary
On Wednesday Year R led the school in our Crowning of Mary Liturgy. This was the first time our youngest children took the lead in one of our liturgies. The children shared a lot of the work they had been doing in class to celebrate Mary the Mother of Jesus. They produced some beautiful pictures, prayers and models of Mary which we all enjoyed viewing. Well done Year R.
Mass to Celebrate the Ascension of Jesus
On Thursday 18th May at 9:30a.m the children will be joining the parish to celebrate the feast of the Ascension. This is a Holy Day of Obligation in England which means that all Catholics should attend Mass.
Sunday 21st May
On Sunday 21st May at 10:00a.m the children are invited to support the singing at Mass at St Simon’s Church. The parishioners often comment how they enjoy hearing the children sing and it would be lovely if as many children as possible take part.
Tag Rugby Festival
On Monday 15th May a team from Year 5 and 6 will be taking part in a Tag Rugby Festival at the Ashford School in Great Chart. I am sure you will join me in wishing the children the very best of luck. Come on St Simon’s!
Year 5 Visit the Park
On Tuesday 16th May Year 5 as part of their Geography work will be going to Victoria Park to complete a study of the river. This visit will be “weather permitting” and let us hope none of the children get too wet by studying the river too closely!
School Uniform
Can I take this opportunity to remind all parents that the children are expected to wear school uniform as set out on our website page: https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/school-uniform/
Sports Day 2023
Some of our Year 6 parents and carers have made us aware that our planned date for our Sports Day and Summer Fair (30th June) clashes with the secondary transition dates so we will be relooking at this date to see what we can do as we don’t wish our Year 6 children to miss out on their last sports day.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe
