Weekly News Friday 13th October

Dear Parents and Carers

“Let us ask the Lord for the grace always to accept the invitation to His feast, which is free.” Pope Francis

Barbie and Ken Sponsored Walk

Well done to all we managed to raise £1001.30 during our sponsored walk last week. This is a tremendous effort. The children had a great time many thanks to everyone who sponsored the children with their fund raising.

Harvest Festival

Today Year 3 led us in our Harvest Festival. The children reminded us all to be grateful for all the gifts that God has given us while at the same time remembering that we need to support others.

Many thanks for all the kind donations of tinned and dried foods and a great big thank you to Year 3 for their wonderful liturgy.

Children invited to “Sing on Sunday”

The children are invited to help support the parish with their singing on Sunday 15th October at 10:00 a.m. Mass. The children’s voices really do help to enhance the celebration it would be good if as many children as possible attend.

Wellington Boots

This week we had our first “Wet Playtime” which meant that the children couldn’t access the school field. If the children bring in a pair of Wellington boots they will still be able to play on the field in all but the very worst of weather. Can I also remind parents to send children into school with a coat for when the weather is wet.

Breakfast Club

I need to remind parents that our Breakfast Club starts at 7:45a.m. At the moment we have few children who are arriving very early before our Breakfast Club supervisor is onsite so please can parents bear this in mind when dropping children off.

Bikeability and Cycle Safe Training

Next week some of our Year 6 will be completing their Bikeability training on Monday 16th so if you have signed your child up for this don’t forget their bicycle and helmet.

Year 4 have the opportunity to take part in Bikebility on Friday 20th October.

Year 2 will be able to take part in Cycle Safe training on Wednesday 18th October and Year R on Thursday 19th October. Let us pray for good weather so that we don’t have lots of soggy cyclists!

Children in those classes will need a coat in case of cold/wet weather.

First Football Match

On Friday 20th October our school football team will be playing their first match against Rolvenden Primary School at Rolvenden Primary School. We will transport the children to the match and return them back to school hopefully on later than 5:00p.m.  I am sure that our team will give their very best and show great sportsmanship.

Year 4 Times Tables Rockstars Competition

We need a bigger effort form our Year 4 in the Times Tables Rockstars Competition set up this week. At the moment we are trailing well behind St Richard’s in Dover. Come on St Simon’s!

Filming in Classes

As part of our staff development teachers will be filming themselves teaching so that they can view this back and discuss with colleagues what went well in the lesson and how they could perhaps improve on things. The film is only shared among our school staff.

With best wishes

Peter McCabe
