Dear Parents and Carers
“Jesus is the Bread of Life for our families.” Pope Francis
Apologies for not posting a Newsletter last week but after avoiding COVID for over two years it finally managed to catch up with me- I must be slowing down as I am getting older! Thankfully I am recovered and fighting fit for the final term.
The weather has suddenly turned very hot so please can parents make sure that children have a sunhat, a water bottle and sunscreen applied before they come to school.
Last Friday Year 3 represented St Simon’s in the “Cardboard Orchestra Proms” which was part of Ashford’s Jubilee celebrations. The children had to produce their own cardboard instruments and use these to mime playing a piece of music as an orchestra. Our children were fantastic. Well done everyone in Year 3. (Check out the Year 3 class page for pictures)
On Tuesday we sent a team of girls from 5 and 6 to play in a cricket festival. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves despite the very hot weather. They all gave their best well-done girls.
Next Tuesday we are sending out a mixed team of cricketers from Year 5 and 6 to take part in another cricket festival so come on St Simon’s.
St Simon’s Has Got Talent
The auditions for our St Simon’s has got talent are well underway. It always amazes me how confident and brave the children are when they step up and perform. The judges have a very hard task in deciding who they are going to put through to the finals.
The finals of the competition are on Thursday 23 June at 2:00p.m all are welcome to join us.
Sports Week
Next week is sports week and the children will be taking part in lots of sporting activities throughout the week. This will end with our Sports Day on Friday 24th June at 9:30a.m on the school field (Remember to bring a blanket or camp chair to sit on!)
Children are asked to wear a tee shirt in their house colours.
Family Picnic
Parents are invited to join their children for a picnic on the school field after sports day- You will have to provide your own picnic- School lunch is still available to the children who want this.
Summer Fair
At 2:00p.m after the family picnic we are holding our Summer Fair. If children wish to take part in the fair they must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
On Monday in return for non-school uniform we are looking for donations of nice bottles for our bottle stall.
On Tuesday the children are asked to bring in an item for our “Colour Raffle” so if your child is in St Matthew’s Team they must bring in something red e.g. a packet of Kit Kats or red grapes etc. All the items of the same colour will then be put into a box and raffled off.
The fun is to use your imagination when choosing your item of colour.
At the Summer Fair each class will be running a stall to raise money.
We could to with adult support to help run the fair so if you can spare some time this would be very much appreciated.
Most importantly we need you to come along and join in the fun and spend your money!
First Holy Communion
On Saturday at 11:30a.m we have five of our pupils making their First Holy Communion: Isabel, Kamsy and Ethan in Year 3 and Bernice and Emmanuella in Year 4. I am sure that you will keep the children in your prayers on this very important day for them.
100% Attendance
Congratulations to Year 1 and 4 for having 100% attendance this week. The children will be rewarded with as extra playtime.
Farewell Miss Shoubridge
Today we said goodbye to Miss Shoubridge as she left us to start a new career working for Eurostar. We wish Miss Shoubridge the very best of luck in her new job and we will remember her in our thoughts and prayers.
Inconsiderate Driving
Unfortunately, today a member of staff was verbally abused by one of our parents when trying to access the school car park this morning. This behaviour has never happened in St Simon’s before towards a member of staff and cannot be tolerated. Hopefully the parent responsible will think about their behaviour and we will not have any repetition of this in the future.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe
