Weekly News Friday 18 November 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

“God is so merciful towards us. We too should learn to be merciful.” Pope Francis

Well done to everyone who sponsored the children in their Sponsored Walk/Explosion of Colour. The money for this is still coming into school and so far we have raised £1266.92. This is a fantastic sum of money for just one event.

Many thanks for to all for our non-school uniform events this week. The donations of stationary sets will go well to acts as gifts for Father Christmas’ sack at our Christmas Fayre on Friday 9th December.

Well done for the donations towards “Children in Need” which is a charity that helps support children across the nation we raised £238

Our Christmas Fayre is fast approaching and we could do with volunteers to help before and during the event to help make it a success. If you feel you can help please speak to myself or contact the school office.

Next Friday we are holding another non-uniform event in return for donations for our “Colour Raffle” at the Christmas Fayre. The concept is quite simple the children are asked to bring in an item of their team colour to make up a hamper/prize e.g. St Matthew's Team colour red could bring in a pack of Coke or a packet of Kit Kats, St Mark's Team colour yellow a large pack of Quavers or a pair of yellow rubber gloves, St Luke's Team colour green Walkers Salt and vinegar, St John's Team colour blue salt and vinegar Pringles.... the more imaginative ideas the better.

If you need any help with ideas please ask a member of staff.

On Wednesday 16th November Fr. Hans celebrated Mass with Year 6 in their classroom this was the first time Fr Hans and the children have done this since before the first lock down.

Next Wednesday 23rd November at 9:30a.m Fr. Hans will be celebrating Mass with Year 5 in their classroom. Parents and Carers are very welcome to join us.

On Sunday 20th November is the Feast of Christ the King and children from our school choir will be joining the parish for this celebration at 10:00a.m. All are very welcome to join.

A team of children from Year 4 took part in a Multi-skills Festival on Tuesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the festival and returned to school very excited and wanted to share their experience with everyone. Many thanks to Mrs Dorman and Mr Hunt for accompanying the children to this event.

There has been a great deal of illness across all classes recently and we have experienced a lot of absence among the children and the school staff hopefully. There seems to be a very nasty flu/cold virus (Not Covid) going around so hopefully this will soon pass.

Mrs Hyczko isn’t quite back to full health as yet and so we will rearrange her postponed parent evening when she is feeling better.

The school nurse team are visiting school on Monday 21 November to administer the flu vaccine to all children whose parents have given consent for this.

Breakfast and Afterschool Club

Our Afterschool Club is becoming very popular with parents, carers and the children. Please can parents remember that our clubs need to be booked in advance so that our staff can plan for the numbers of children that they have attending.

A form for breakfast and after school club can be found on our website: https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/school-clubs/

With best wishes

Peter McCabe
