Dear Parents and Carers

Data Collection Sheets
Many thanks to everyone who has already checked and returned the Data Collection Sheets. These are very important to us as they enable us to be able to contact you in the event of an emergency or in the event of severe weather or if your child is ill etc.
Severe Snow/Ice Plan
We have been experiencing very cold weather lately and northern parts of the U.K. have been affected by severe snow and ice so I thought it best to remind you of the school’s Severe weather/ice plan. Full details of our plan can be found here https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/severe-snowice-plan/
Some key reminders:
- We will do our very best to stay open if it is safe to do so and we have enough staff in school.
- Easiest way for us to contact you is on the scrolling banner on the school website
- We will also alert parents via the Kent school closures website https://www.kentclosures.co.uk/
- During severe snow/ice we may need to open later and close earlier so working parents may need a back up plan for child carer arrangements
School Uniform/Winter Coats
All children are expected to wear full school uniform. We still have a number of children who are not coming to school with suitable coats for the weather conditions so please can all parents ensure that their children come to school in a winter coat.
Children will still be participating in P.E lessons outdoors unless the weather is extreme. Please can parents provide a pair of jogging bottoms for P.E outside in winter.
Lock Down Drill
We will be carrying out a “Lock Down Drill” on Wednesday 24th January. We do not wish to worry the children in any way but there are occasions when the school may have to “Lock Down”. This could be because of a dangerous dog on the playground, an environmental incident such as a fire or chemical spill in the local area or a stranger on the school site.
We carry out drills so that the children and adults are prepared for such events. If you think your child may be anxious about this please do your best to reassure them and let us know so that we can help prepare them more fully.
Annemarie Whittle our CEO Visiting St Simon’s
On Tuesday 23rd January Mrs Annemarie Whittle our trust’s Chief Executive Officer will be visiting St Simon’s to say hello to the children and staff and see how everyone is getting on with their learning. I am sure that the children and staff will make Mrs Whittle very welcome.
