Weekly News Friday 1st April 2022
Dear Parents and Carers
“Happy Easter! May you bring to all the joy and hope of the Risen Christ!” Pope Francis
It is very hard to believe that we are at the end of another term. The time really seems to be flying by. I also can’t believe that last weekend I got sunburnt only to find that this week it has been freezing with snow and hailstones!
Year 4 Passion Reflection
Well done to our Year 4 who led the whole school in our Passion Reflection where the children took us on a journey of remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion. This was a very prayerful and moving and thought provoking event for the school.
Lenten Fund Raising
Many thanks to everyone for their generosity during our Lenten fundraising. I am always amazed by the large amount of money we as a small school raise for the good of others.
To date we have raised:
Crazy Hair Day: £139.50
Dress in Something red £201.22
Sponsored Walk £718.30 (Money is still coming in)
Non-uniform and Cinema £245.14
Total to date: £1304.16
We still have to include money from the Easter Egg Raffle and from the Year 6 Activity Afternoon which was a great success. The children enjoyed the activities that Year 6 had planned for them despite the unseasonable weather.
Well done everyone for all the hard work and for the kindness shown to others.
KCSP Green School Competition
Congratulations to our Year 6 they were shortlisted in the KCSP Green School Competition. The children were asked to come up with an eco-friendly initiative and present this to a panel made up from our multi-academy trusts board of directors.
Joseph and Samaira were asked to represent Year 6 and had to answer questions about the Year 6 project. The project they proposed was to use special tiles that the children step on to convert their Kinetic energy into electrical energy and so help to power the school with additional electricity.
Unfortunately, we didn’t win one of the top prizes of £10 000 but the school have been given up to £3000 to spend on other green projects. We are all very proud of our Year 6- a great team effort.
On Saturday our footballers took part in the Ashford District Schools Football competition. The children were a great credit to the school and their parents. However, after not losing a single game with three wins and two draws they were knocked out of the competition on goal difference. The children were disappointed but all were very pleased with how they performed. Well done St Simon’s.
Cycle Circle Safe Cycling
Many thanks to Spencer and his team from Cycle Circle they delivered safe cycling sessions to Year R and Year 1. We have rearranged the Year 2 Cycle Safety training for Wednesday 20th April.
The Cycle Circle mechanics also attended to minor repairs to 16 bicycles while they were onsite which means that these bikes will now be completely safe and road worthy for the children to use.
New Mud Kitchen in Year R
Many thanks to Alice in Year R and to Alice’s Mum and Dad for building a new “Mud Kitchen” for our Year R outside area.
The children have already had a lot of fun making delicious mud pies and other non-gastronomic delights! I don’t think any of these “school meals” will make it past Jamie Oliver’s scrutiny.
Online Safety Newsletter
Please check out our Online Safety Newsletter which can be found on the “News and Events” tab of our website. The school is working with the Knowsley Trust who produces a monthly newsletter with useful advice for parents on helping to keep children safe while they are online.
May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a peaceful Easter.
With best wishes
