Weekly News Friday 20th October

Dear Parents and Carers

“The heart that knows how to say ‘thank you’ is a good heart, it is a heart that is content.”

Pope Francis

Children Singing at Mass

Many thanks to the children and their families that supported the singing at Mass last Sunday. It was good to hear that we had at least 22 children who sang beautifully. Well done children.

Phonics Information Afternoon

We had a great turnout of parents and carers for our Reception and Key stage Phonics afternoon. Parents are the first educators of the children and we seek to work in partnership with parents. It is very encouraging for our teachers to see such a large number of parents and carers who are keen to support their children in learning to read. Well done everyone.

Advance Notice Parents Evening

On Friday 3rd November you will receive your child’s first report of the academic year. This report is just a “snap shot” of how your child has settled into the new school year. We are holding two parent evenings on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th November to give parents the opportunity to discuss the children’s progress in more detail. Appointments will be available from 3:30-6:00p.m.

Reminder for Year 6 Parents

Year 6 parents need to apply for a secondary school place by Tuesday 31st October. Parents are encouraged to apply online at: https://kent.cloud.servelec-synergy.com/Synergy/Admissions.aspx

If you are unable to apply online email kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk for assistance.

If parents need any support with this process please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Flu Vaccinations

This is a reminder to parents to submit a consent or decline for the Flu Vaccination Programme via The School Aged Immunisation Service’s website https://family.kentcht.nhs.uk/

The vaccinations will take place in school on 14th November 2023.

“Cycle Safety and Bikeability Training”

This week children in Year 6 and Year 4 took part in Bikeability Training and the children in Year 2 and Year R were able to participate in Cycle Safety training. Fortunately, although the weather was very changeable it didn’t “dampen” the children’s spirits and they didn’t get too wet throughout the week.

Well done to Spencer Morgan and his “CycleCircle” team who ensured that all the children had great success in the training.

New Intake for Reception in September 2024

We have a number of afternoons set aside for tours of the school for prospective parents for our reception class for September 2024. These dates are set out on our New Intake page which can be found here on our website https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/new-intake-reception-class-september-2024/

Feast of All Saints

On Wednesday 1st November is the Feast of All Saints and the children will be joining the Parish at 9:30a.m Mass to celebrate this great feast in the Liturgical Year. As with all our liturgy parents and carers are most welcome to join us.

Next Week is Half Term Holiday

Next week the children and staff will be enjoying the half term holidays. Children are expected to return to school on Monday 30th October.

Best wishes for a good break

Peter McCabe
