Weekly News Friday 27th September
Dear Parents and Carers
“God is good and all things that come from God are good.” St Hildegard of Bingen
It has been another busy week at school with our trust carrying out a health check. Many thanks to all the parents who shared their very positive views about the school.
Year 6 attendance at our trusts beginning of term Mass
Our Year 6 class joined all the other schools from across the trust to celebrate Mass at Aylesford Priory. This was a lovely celebration which included a picnic in the priory grounds. The children also enjoyed a visit to the Peace Garden, Rosary Walk and the Relic Chapel which holds the relic of St Simon Stock the patron saint of our School.
Beginning of Term Mass at St Georges Cathedral
Mrs Ebenebe and 4 children: Lena, Alfie, Steve and Malaika represented our school at St George’s Cathedral in London. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop John and the children returned with a lovely candle that we will use to celebrate the 2025 Jubilee Year.
The children came back to school filled with enthusiasm and Lena shared her reflections on the day at whole school assembly on Friday.
St Simon’s Job Centre
We have appointed key figures for our St Simon’s Job Centre: Zino is the CEO (The Big Cheese!) Eva is the Deputy CEO and Sarani and Isabel are the Admin Officers. I am sure that these children will serve us well and will soon have all the job vacancies filled and all running smoothly.
Flu Vaccinations
We have already a number of children and staff off across the school with Flu like symptoms. This is a reminder to parents to submit a consent or decline for the Flu Immunisation Programme via the Immunisation Service’s website https://family.kentcht.nhs.uk/imms click on “Child vaccination form” button to complete. The vaccinations will be taking place in school on 17/10/2024. This must be actioned by 11/10/24.
Online Safety/Stranger Danger
You can find our latest online safety newsletter on our News and Events Tab of our website. This gives parents lots of useful advice on how to set parental controls on devices etc.
Can I remind parents that they should be regularly checking what their children are accessing when online.
The evenings will soon be getting darker so please can all be aware of stranger danger.
One of our Year 6 children was approached by a stranger this week. We recommend that children from Year 6 if they are walking home alone from school should go straight home and not go off playing in the park by themselves.
New Pupils Joining the School
I am very pleased to welcome new pupils to our school: Adewale, Max and Safal. I am sure that everyone will welcome the children and their parents into our St Simon’s School family.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe
