Weekly News Friday 29th April
Dear Parents and Carers
"God wills that all his gifts should come to us through Mary" St. Bernard
This weekend we see the start of May the month that the Church sets aside for honouring Mary as the Mother of Christ.
On Thursday 5th May at 2:30p.m. our Year R children will be leading the school in our Crowning of Mary Liturgy everyone is very welcome to join us.
Mrs Morrison and baby Max Visit
Thinking of mothers on Monday Mrs Morrison visited the school with her new baby son Max.
Both Mother and baby are doing very well and Mrs Morrison’s class were very pleased to see them both.
Mrs Morrison asked me to pass on her thanks for all the kind presents and wishes she received before she left.
I am sure that we will all see Mrs Morrison and Max back at school in the very near future.
Sporting Events
On Monday a team of Year 4 pupils took part in a Multi-sports festival. The children were a real credit to the school and Mr Hunt was extremely proud with how our pupils performed.
On Tuesday a team of footballers from 5 and 6 took part in a football festival where the children had to compete against schools from across Ashford. The children had to play a lot of football quite late into the afternoon. The event was a festival meaning that it wasn’t a competition and teams weren’t placed at the end of the event.
Our team played brilliantly showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Well done to both our teams.
It is great news to get the sporting calendar back on track after such a difficult period of time for all schools.
Leave of Absence
With things opening up again as COVID restrictions have been relaxed parents are beginning to ask for leave of absence during term time.
The school is not allowed to grant leave of absence for holiday during term time especially during important periods such as the month of May when Year 2 and Year 6 are completing their end of Year Statutory Assessment Tasks (SATS).
Leave of absence can only be granted by the school on exceptional circumstances. If you are seeking leave of absence under exceptional circumstances these need to be outlined to me in writing.
50th Anniversary Mass
The school will be celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary Mass on Friday 27th May at 10:00a.m on our Key Stage 1 playground (weather permitting). This will be followed by a “Street Party” for the children in the afternoon.
If you are a past pupil of the school or know of any past pupils who may have any photographs of the school we would like to add these to our display.
If you have any interesting stories or anecdotes about events in the past we would like to add these to our collection. Please contact me via the school office or by email peter.mccabe@st-simons-ashford.kcsp.org.uk
May Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May
Monday is a bank holiday so the school is closed to all pupils.
With best wishes
