Weekly News Friday 3rd March
Dear Parents and Carers
“With God we can do great things. Jesus is always ready to encourage and support us.” Pope Francis
World Book Day
It was great to see the children taking part in our World Book Day activities. We had such a fantastic response to our “Book in a Matchbox” competition that we decided to give a winning prize for each class rather than Key Stage. Some of the entries were amazing with the amount of detail that the children managed to put into their boxes.
The overall winners in each class were: Nova Year R, Dominic Year 1, Lena Year 2, Alfie Year 3, Leahanna Year 4, Teddie Year 5 and James Year 6.
Well done to all the children who took part. We have put the boxes on display in our school library so that the children can enjoy looking at these when they visit.
Year 5 Stargazing
The children in Year 5 and their siblings were able to join Mr Tom Holloway from the Primary Science Teaching Trust in a stargazing evening. Unfortunately, the cloudy skies meant that we couldn’t do a great deal of actual gazing at the stars but the children enjoyed the evening and learnt a lot about space and our solar system. Many thanks to the parents and carers that joined us for the event.
Cycle Safety
This week the children in EYFS and Year 1 and 2 were able to take part in cycle safety workshops. The children were shown how to ride a two-wheeled pedal bicycle or balance bike.
Riding a bike safely is an important life skill as it helps to encourage healthy lifestyles. We have used some of our Sports Funding to pay for the workshops. Many thanks to the Cycle Circle team for delivering the workshops.
Lenten Fundraising
This Friday the children were able to take part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for CAFOD. The children enjoyed taking part in this activity and got lots of exercise and fresh air. Can parents and carers send in the money raised as soon as possible. Well done and thank you to all for supporting our fund raising.
Next Friday 10th March the children are being asked to dress as someone famous who has made a difference. I look forward to seeing who they will be dressed up as!
Easter Egg Raffle
Every Year we hold an Easter Egg Raffle as part of our Lenten Fundraising so we are looking for donations of Easter Eggs for our raffle. It always amazes me how generous all our parents and carers are when it comes to supporting the children with their fund raising. Your support in providing donations of Easter Eggs for our raffle is always greatly appreciated.
Parent Evenings Next Week
Today you should have received your child’s report and this will form the basis of discussion at Parent Evenings next week on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th March from 3:30 until 6:00 p.m. If you haven’t already made an appointment these can be made via the school office.
It is very important that all parents attend an appointment as the school report only gives a snapshot of how your child is getting on.
Multi Skills Festival
On Tuesday 7th March we have a team of children from Year 2 taking part in a multi-skills festival at Harrietsham Primary School. I am sure that they will give their very best and will be great ambassadors for our school. Thank you to Mr Hunt who will be accompanying the team to this event.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Mrs Warren our Mathematics leader has informed me that we are currently 5th out of 30 schools in the district for the Times Tables Rock Stars league which is excellent well-done children!
However, let’s keep up the practice and see if we can improve for a top 3 place?
Prayer Request Box
From Monday we are placing a prayer request box in our front reception area this is for parents and carers to place any intentions that you would like the children to pray for during our liturgies.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe
