Dear Parents and Carers

Reading Information Evening
Many thanks to everyone who joined the school yesterday to receive information about our new reading and phonics programme “Little Wandle Letters and Sounds” for Reception and Key Stage 1.
If you missed the evening there is more information and advice posted on the children’s class pages on our website or on the home learning links tab which can be found here:
Year 3 and 4 Visit Otterden Estate
Children in Year 3 and 4 visited Otterden Estate this week. They all seem to have had a great time and thankfully the weather was very kind to the children. A great big thank you to all at Otterden Estate for arranging this for the children.
Year 4 to Visit Benenden School
Year 4 will visit Benenden School on Thursday 13th October to watch a Kidenza Music Concert.
Last academic year the children took part in a “Cardboard Paper Orchestra” where they made musical instruments and mimed playing their instruments to a recording of a real orchestra. When they visit Benenden they will see and hear instruments being played live by professional musicians. This will be a great experience for the children.
The children will need a packed lunch and full school uniform for the trip.
Today our football team played a game against Wilesborough Junior school. The children played extremely well and the result was 4-2 to St Simon’s. Well done boys and girls.
It was great to see the children being able to take part in competitive games once again.
Artist Rob Turner Returns
On Monday 10th October Rob Turner the artist is hoping to return to begin painting the mural he and the children have been working on. He will be working outdoors so we will all have to hope and pray for dry weather.
The mural will be painted at the front of the school just below the roof so we may have to bring Reception class into school through the gates at the back of the car park.
Year 3 will be leading us in our Harvest Festival on Friday 21st October in the school hall at 2:30p.m. Harvest Festival is when we say thank you to God for all the gifts he has given us while we also remember those who are less fortunate than us.
We are looking for donations of tinned and dried foods for our “Harvest Display” which will later be given to Vinnie’s Diner which provides hot meals for the homeless and rough sleepers in the Ashford area. Please can all give generously towards this very worthwhile cause.
