Weekly News Friday 9th February
Dear Parents and Carers
“Lent is a favourable season for deepening our spiritual life through fasting, prayer and charitable giving.” Pope Francis
Wednesday 14th February is Ash Wednesday the beginning of the season of Lent. It’s a time to make a change for the better by turning away from things which are wrong for ourselves or others. A short video summarising the season of Lent can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo1mjuy1NA0
The times for Ash Wednesday at St Simon’s Church are:
6.10pm - Rosary
6.30pm- Stations of the Cross
7.00pm- Solemn Mass and Imposition of Ashes
On Thursday 22nd February at 2:30p.m. children from our Liturgy Group will be leading the whole school in our Lenten Liturgy. This is part of the prayer life of the school and parents are invited to attend.
Lent is also a time when the children raise funds for charities chosen by our school council. This lent we are holding the following activities to raise funds on the following dates:
Friday 23 February Crazy Hair Day on the Theme of God’s Wonderful world in aid of WWF
Friday 1st March Sponsored Walk for CAFOD
Friday 8th March Scavenger Hunt Place2BE
Friday 15th March Dress in the colours of the rainbow for Pilgrims Hospice
Friday 22nd March Year 6 Activity Afternoon for CAFOD
Thursday 28th March Easter Egg Raffle for CAFOD
This week we have been celebrating our musical talents with our music week. Children who have been learning musical instruments shared their talents with everyone throughout the week. We also had an amazing performance from “The Haze” a rock group made up of students from Homewood School.
Music Week came to a grand finale today when all classes performed together in a great celebration of our musical talents. Many thanks to all who were able to join us in our school hall. A great big thank you must go to Mrs Withey-Harrison and our other music teachers on organising and preparing the children for the events all week.
Please can all parents show consideration for the safety of others when parking cars. I have been informed that a nasty accident was narrowly avoided when one of our parents nearly knocked over a child from one of our neighbouring schools. So, can everyone PLEASE TAKE MORE CARE!
Next Week is the Half Term Holiday
Just a quick reminder next week is half term holiday and the children are due back in school on Tuesday 20th February as the Monday is a staff training day.
With best wishes
