Weekly News

Dear Parents and Carers

“Let’s welcome the light of Christ into our hearts. When Christ is your friend, you have joy, serenity and happiness.” Pope Francis

Many thanks to all who attended our Nativity performances this week. It was good to see the children performing live in front of an audience. This was only possible due to parents and carers following our request to restrict numbers and to wear a face covering this is greatly appreciated as I know some relatives were disappointed as they couldn’t attend due to the restriction.

Today we held our Christmas Fair fortunately the weather was kind to us although it was a little cold. Everyone seemed to enjoy the occasion and Father Christmas was kept very busy.

I must thank everyone who helped to make the fair such a successful occasion. A special mention has to go to Santa’s little helpers who turned up during the week to wrap presents and label up bottles for the Bottle Stall etc. We also mustn’t forget to thank Santa himself for visiting us at such a busy time for him.

Many thanks to all for their donations during our non-uniform days and for the kind gifts for our Christmas raffle we at the school are blessed with very generous parents and carers.

Many thanks to the staff of Macdonald’s in Ashford for providing us with cups for our hot chocolate as our other supplier let us down at the very last minute. It just goes to show that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well in Ashford.

Next week will be another busy week.

On Wednesday 15th December is school Christmas Dinner Day the children will be able to wear their Christmas Jumpers if they wish to do so a donation for “Save the Children” would be greatly appreciated.

On Thursday 16th December at 2:50p.m the children in Key Stage 2 will be singing Christmas Carols on the Key Stage 2 Playground. The gates will be opened so parents can come around collect their children from Key Stage 1 and join in the festive fun. At 3:15p.m parents will be able to collect their children from Key Stage 2 and go home at the normal time.

On Friday 17th December the children in Key Stage 2 will be attending an end of term Mass in the church at 9:30a.m unfortunately parents and carers can’t join us on this occasion.

Friday afternoon is Christmas Party Time. The children are asked to bring in their own small plate of party food to eat and the school will provide the drinks. Please can parents make sure that their child’s plate of food is clearly named.

During the Christmas Holiday the government is providing vouchers for children who are in receipt of benefits related Free School Meals. To enable us to order vouchers for families we need up to date contact details for parents and carers who are entitled to benefits related Free School Meals.

Our Year 5 children have recently taken part in the Shakespeare Schools Film Festival when they performed and filmed their version of Hamlet. The link to their performance can be found on the year class page or by clicking on this link:

Unfortunately, on Monday 6th December a man stole a pupil’s bike from the bike shed. We have now added a security padlock to the gates in addition to the magnetic lock and are now keeping the side gates locked during the day which will make the site more secure.

We have taken advice from the police and they have reassured us that these are sensible measures to further tighten up security. We have also provided CCTV images of the thief to the police.

As a further deterrent can parents make sure that their children lock their bikes to the bike racks fitted in the bike shed.

With best wishes

Peter McCabe
