Dear Parents and Carers
It was just a few months ago that we were celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and now we have to come to terms with the shocking sad news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
Her passing will be a great loss to the country and it is a time to mourn, but also a time to say thank you and celebrate the great service and duty Queen Elizabeth has given this nation. I am sure that you will join me in keeping the Queen and the Royal Family in our thoughts and prayers.
We give thanks for the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth,
For her faith and her dedication to duty.
Bless the nation as we mourn her death and may her example continue to inspire us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Welcome back to everyone at the beginning of a new academic year. It was good to see our new Reception class as they begin their first days at St Simon’s. We welcome Nirushan to Year 2 and Eva to Year 4. I am sure that everyone will do their best to help our new children settle into the school.
Sadly, today we said goodbye to Aislin and Aiyana as they left the school to take up a places in their new school. We wish the girls and their family the very best for the future.
Well done to the Year 6 children who took the Kent test on Thursday this week. The children all worked very hard and gave their best during what was an exhausting day so early in the new term.
Secondary Transfer Year 6
The window for Year 6 parents to apply for a secondary school opened on 1st September and closes on 31st October full details of the process can be found on the Year 6 class page on the website.
If any Year 6 parents need any help with the process please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school or email Peter.McCabe@st-simons-ashford.kcsp.org.uk.
“Meet and Greet”
This is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s new class teacher and find out more information about their new class. The Meet and Greets will run from 3:30p.m until approximately 4: 00p.m on the following days:
Monday 12th Years 4 and 6
Tuesday 13th Years 2 and 5
Thursday 15th Years 1 and 3
Next week as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations the children will have the opportunity to work with professional artist Rob Turner on developing a mural to celebrate the cultural diversity of the school. Rob will run workshops with each class and gather ideas from the children which he will then use to produce a mural on the wall at the front of the school. It will be a very exciting project for the children as they see their designs reproduced and as they watch the process of the mural being painted in the coming months.
The school calendar on the website has been updated with key dates for the school year. Dates are always subject to change and I will do my best to keep the calendar updated.
I keep the scrolling banner on the front page of the website updated with key information on a daily basis so please do check on our website.
We are changing the way we teach early reading in Reception and Key Stage 1. We are moving over to “Little Wandle” a new reading programme which will replace “Bug Club Phonics” and “Bug Club Reader” schemes.
We will be sharing more information about the new programme “Little Wandle” and issuing books to use at home very soon. If parents could be a little patient while we get the new programme up and running that would very much appreciated.
Change to the start of the school Day
School now opens at 8:40a.m for all children. Children coming to school after this time will be marked as late and if they arrive after registers close at 8:55a.m they will be marked as absent for the first session of the school day.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe Headteacher
