Weekly Newsletter Friday 2 February
Dear Parents and Carers
“God grants us his love, which gives us strength and heals us.” Pope Francis
Year R Bible Blessing
Today Year R children joined Fr Jose at St Simon’s Church for a Bible Blessing. Fr Jose blessed a set of bibles and then presented one to each of the children so that they have their own special gift to share with their families at home.
The children also had the chance to explore the Church looking at the altar, Tabernacle and the beautiful carved stations of the cross.
Thank you to Fr Jose and for all the parents and carers who joined us.
Next Week beginning 5th February
Next week is a very busy week at school as we will be celebrating our Music Week. It is also Mental Health Week and on Tuesday it is Online Safety Day/Safer Internet Day.
Next week we are holding our Music Week when the children will be taking part in a lot of musical activities:
- On Monday 5th February our instrumentalists will be showing off their talents to the whole school.
- On Tuesday 6th February our Year 4 will be performing with their Ukuleles. Mr PC our Ukulele teacher will also demonstrate how to play a number of other instruments.
- On Thursday 8th February we have a short performance by a group of Homewood students called “The Haze”
- On Friday 9th at 2:00p.m. all classes will gather together for a celebration of music performing different musical pieces- parents are welcome to join us but please be aware it will be a bit of a squash and a squeeze to get everyone in.
A request from Mrs Withey-Harrison our music teacher:
“Please can you vote for Kidenza with the little blues tokens in Tesco when you are doing your shopping as we’d love to take some of the children to see a live professional orchestra later this year. If parents vote for Kidenza when they shop in Tesco the more votes Kidenza receive the lower the ticket price! It will be an experience of a lifetime!”
Mental Health Week
Next week is mental health week the children will be looking at how they can keep themselves mentally healthy. Mrs Chambers has prepared some work which highlights how children can look after their well-being.
Year 6 will be working with the school nursing team to complete a survey on their well-being. The survey helps to identify children who may wish to seek further advice on various issues such as transition to secondary school, bullying, body image etc.
Online Safety Day or Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 6th February is Safer Internet Day a day set aside to remind all of us how to keep children safe when using online resources, it is a day when we at school remind the children how to keep themselves safe. For advice on how to keep your children safe please read our latest online safety newsletter which can be found here: https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/topic/news-events
