S.E.N Useful Information during School Closure Coronavirus

A letter from our SENCO Mrs Chambers

Dear Parents,

Many apologies that I have not been available to you at this very strange time for us all. Unfortunately, my dad was taken into hospital just before the lockdown and then passed away a few weeks later. As you can imagine, on top of our grief, the new rules and regulations have been much more difficult to negotiate, but I have been very grateful and sort great strength from the warm wishes and support I have received from the St Simon’s community.

I am currently working from home, as much as possible, to ensure that the children I support are monitored and will be fully assisted upon their (hopefully very soon) return to school. As such, my plans during lockdown are:

  • To make contact with relevant secondary SENCO’s in order to ensure that vulnerable pupils moving from Year 6 to Year 7 in September 2020 have a smooth and planned for transition
  • To ensure that all agencies currently working with pupils are kept informed of any updates and that care plans are formed in preparation for the return to ‘normal’ schooling
  • To ensure that any additional funding we currently receive for pupils (such as High Needs Funding) is secured
  • To look to examples of good practice in other settings in order to support our pupils, and their parents, at home
  • To consider possible changes to current policy and practice in anticipation of any concerns/needs our pupils may return to school with

I hope to return to school in mid-May and will use my time then to contact key parents to offer support. If you feel that you might need some advice from myself, regarding any area of SEN, please contact through the following email address:

In the meantime, I have tried to develop some useful information sheets which can be found on our website.

Finally, I hope that you and your families all stay safe and well and I look forward to seeing you all again in the very near future.

Best wishes,

Fay Chambers
