Welcome to Year 1's class page
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 5
Below is the curriculum map for this term. Our topic is India and we will be comparing life in Ashford with life in a village there. We continue with our Science topic of Animals including Humans. Last term we looked at how humans function and this term we will look at animals, classifying them in different ways. In RE we are looking at what happened after the resurrection of Jesus.
Also below is the Chilli Challenge homework sheet for this term. Please help your child to complete a task each week and to read on Bug Club as well as the book they bring home each day.
Purple Mash activities will also be posted on this page.
Thank you very much.
On 27th April we went to the Otterden Estate which hosts activities run by an educational charity called Countryside Learning. We learnt a lot about nature while playing games and exploring the woods.
We identified trees from their leaves. We played a game called 'Squirrels and Acorns' which reminded us that plants need water, sunlight, nutrients from the soil and carbon dioxide to survive.
We went on a scavenger hunt in the woods. We had a list of things we needed to find and all the children did very well, finding unusual things that fitted the criteria.
In the woods every child was given a pebble person and had to make a shelter for it.
We had a wonderful day made even better by a dog called Dill and a picnic lunch outside.
