Dear Parents and Carers
“We cannot grow up by ourselves; rather, we journey and grow in a community, in a family.”

School Sporting Achievements
Last Friday our school football team played a game against Repton Manor B Team and I am very pleased to inform you that we won 3-1. The children showed great resilience and worked hard in the second half to secure victory. Well done team.
St Anslem’s Football and Netball Tournament
On Wednesday we sent a team of boys and a team of girls to the St Anslem’s Football and Netball Tournament. The teams had to play both sports competing against 4 other teams.
The boys won the boys football tournament and came third in the netball. The girls came second in the football and second in the netball. An excellent day out and great results for our children we are all very proud of their performance. A great big thank you to St Anselm’s for arranging this for the schools and well-done Mr Hunt, Mrs Kirwan and Ms West’s daughter Hope for supporting the children.
Year 2 SATS Briefing
Many thanks to all the parents and carers who attended a SATS briefing with Mrs Hyczko on Thursday evening. It was good to see so many people turn up. If you missed the meeting or have any concerns or questions regarding this process please don’t hesitate to speak to Mrs Hyczko.
Medications
This is a reminder to all parents and carers any medication in school should be sent in via the school office. This includes non-prescription drugs such as paracetamol or antihistamine.
We have a medical consent form that should be completed by the parent or carer which provides us with the correct dosage and when the last dose has been administered etc.
Medicines and devices such as asthma inhalers, blood glucose testing meters and adrenaline pens will always be readily available to children and not locked away.
N.B We as a school will not administer prescription medication unless it is in the original container with the pharmacist’s label.
Holidays During Term Time
I have been receiving a number of requests for absence for holidays during term time. The government is very clear and have directed that schools should not authorise absence for holiday during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Please read our school attendance policy for further information which can be found here: https://www.st-simon.kent.sch.uk/policies/
Crowning of Mary
Mary the Mother of Jesus is held in the highest regard in the Catholic Church and the month of May is set aside by the church to celebrate this. Year R will be leading our Crowning of Mary Liturgy on Friday 3rd May at 2:30p.m in the school hall. Everyone is welcome to join us and support our youngest children.
Playtimes at School
For some time, we have been trying to enhance playtime at school for the children and have been appealing for many items such as pallets, guttering, pots and pans etc. We have had an excellent response so far and I would like to express my thanks for everything donated. Please keep your donations coming in.
With best wishes
Peter McCabe
